History: During his time hunting Deceptacons Ultra found that his autobot protoform was lacking in the sort of power to efficiently combat Deceptacons, so he developed a suit of armor with additional weapons to make him a more efficient unit in battle. Hence why Magnus always chooses an Alt mode that carries some sort of trailer.
