Megalopolis is a super sized city made up of three smaller cities: La Claro, Los Valos, and Faultline. Years ago, when Megalopolis was still three separate cities, a large satellite fragment crashed onto an area between the three cities. The destruction left people from all three cities dead. After the crater was cleaned out, the three city governments made the crater a graveyard for those who were killed, and a resting place for dead heroes. Over time the three cities grew, and now they have blended together and expanded into each other so much, the mass of urban living is called Megalopolis.

In this day and age, there are two types of human beings: the regular, familiar Homo sapiens and the new, strange group of humans originally nicknamed “Meta Sapiens.” Meta Sapiens has never been officially labeled an offshoot of the Homo sapiens line due to the fickle and ever-changing types of human beings who fall into this category. Over time, the name has changed in meaning to include anyone with “abnormal” abilities. People on the street know them as metahumans (‘meta’ means ‘beyond’, so the name means ‘beyond human’). There are many ways one can become and be labeled as a metahuman.

1. Genetic- abnormal abilities resulting from natural or unnatural genetic mutations.
2. Machina- abnormal abilities resulting from cybernetic, robotic, or digital implants. This applies to humans as well as sentient non-organic life forms.
3. Extraterrestrial- abnormal abilities resulting from extraterrestrial ancestry.
4. Disease- abnormal abilities that occur as side effects from disease and illness.
5. Magic- abnormal abilities that result from non-scientific sources, includes curses, blessings, death and rebirth, and any religious abilities.

Obviously, as with all tensions between groups of humans, conflicts arose. Humans began pushing metahumans away like a plague as the metahumans advanced more and more past human abilities. Metahumans were unabashedly using their powers to get ahead in life, making them, in many ways, superior in the work force, education, and sports. So, of course, the struggles for equal rights erupted between humans and metahumans as prejudices arose.

While many metahumans sought a peaceful coexistence with humans, there were, unavoidably, those who wanted metahumans to take the place of humans as the dominant race on Earth. Fights erupted, much like the ones humans had been portraying in comic books for a long while. Human presumptions about metahumans and their “violent tendencies” were being proved true.

There were many villains that attacked Megalopolis over the years, but none of them stood out from the rest quite like Malistyrax did. The last dragon on Earth and a remnant of an age of magic long forgotten in the past, Malistyrax had been trapped in human form in a series of debatably unfortunate events. During the age of magic, Malistyrax managed to burn most of the ancient world to the ground, or so most of the surviving accounts say. To kill him, a wizard devised a way to tear Malistyrax's soul out of his body. While Malistyrax's soul was successfully separated from his body during the wizard's attempt, it was still too powerful to pass on into death. The wizard, with his strength failing, divided Malistyrax's soul into five parts, sealed each part away into a different part of the corpse, and scattered the pieces around the globe. Malistyrax's last victim was the wizard, who died upon finishing the last seal.

Six years ago, an archaeologist uncovered one of the fragments. His soul became corrupted by the evil that had lain dormant for centuries within the piece of Malistyrax's body. Driven by the dragon's influence, the man sought out the other fragments until his soul was completely devoured by Malistyrax's. With this new body, Malistyrax became free to restart anew his crusade to eradicate all humans. To do so, however, he needed help. Things had changed while he'd lain dormant, and, while magic was no longer prevalent, technology was going to prove just as difficult a challenge to overcome. So, to assist him, Malistyrax found and recruited four like-minded individuals to help him. These four were metahumans, all shunned from society by humans for their ideas and actions. These four were:
1. Bone – A man who, through an ancient family curse, could manipulate his bones and could not be killed by normal attacks. However, his weakness lay in the curse as well; if Bone ever overused his powers, they would grow out of control, killing him in the process. Bone provided a good deal of intelligence to the team, even though his powers were the weakest.
2. Lycan – One of the few pureblood lycanthropes left on Earth, Lycan’s abilities as both a woman and a wolf became invaluable. As a bonus, she could only be killed by another lycanthrope, though pure silver could weaken her.
3. Edge – As a human, Edge was hit by a car and was on the brink of death. Edge woke up in a military hospital fused to the exoskeleton codenamed ARIES. He escaped the hospital when he learned that his brain was to be transferred to the MARS unit after the ARIES unit completed its test phase. His exoskeleton had made him a cyborg, making him the member of the Shadow Alliance best suited for handling machinery and such.
4. Chimera – In his human life, Chimera was born with a blank chromosome. That one blank chromosome made him a quadriplegic with heart and lung problems. Trying to fix his condition, Chimera agreed to undergo a radical procedure to use his blank chromosome as a template to integrate his genetic code with animal genes. The procedure worked a little too well and integrated his genetics too perfectly with the animal genes, and turned him into a monster. He was imprisoned for years while they tried to reverse his 'condition,' but it was fruitless. A counteragent was developed to kill the enzyme that mutates his DNA, because otherwise he had no way to stop or control the change. In his transformed state, Chimera was unstable. Eventually he escaped and joined the Shadow Alliance.

Over time, Malistyrax and his Shadow Alliance managed to track down most of the dragon’s soul fragments. However, before he could reach the last one, Malistyrax was betrayed by Bone. As the military swarmed down on Malistyrax, the dragon went berserk, attacking the rest of his Shadow Alliance as well, thinking they had been in on the betrayal. When the battle ended, Malistyrax lay dead, and Lycan, Edge, and Chimera were imprisoned. Bone was given a pardon by the President for his actions. Life in Megalopolis returned to normal. Congress passed the Abnormal Threat Defense Act, which provided ways to counter future metahuman threats, as well as provisions to keep metahumans under surveillance. Bone began going by his human name of Tobias Slate and quickly got a government job as a “treat prevention expert.” When Lycan was released, the two of them had a son. Everything seemed relatively peaceful.

However, after three years, Malistyrax returned. Attacking Century Square in the La Claro district of Megalopolis, he made it clear to everyone that he was going to, once again, attempt to wipe out human kind. Bone was quickly put in charge of gathering a group of metahumans to lead the attack on Malistyrax. He chose his group and gathered them together:
 Alexis Theory, also known as Dragonfly, who could focus her mental energy into a physical attack.
 Kouichien, also known as Hellspawn, who could harness the amount of demon blood that ran through his veins to fight with, increasing his strength, agility, and endurance.
 Julian Munsikoff, also known as Yimara, who could control paper.
 Chimera
 Edge

In their first mission, the small group was confronted by hordes of zombies, created by the necromancer Shade Lich, a member of Malistyrax’s new Shadow Alliance. During the battle, Malistyrax showed up, quickly putting Edge and Chimera into critical condition. Alexis quickly ordered Kouichien and Yimara to get Chimera and Edge away, and then proceeded with her attempt to hold Malistyrax off. Chimera ended up going into his full form and returned to attack Malistyrax. Chimera was decapitated by the dragon and Alexis killed shortly after. After Malistyrax had left, the bodies were returned to base, where Alexis made a miraculous recovery and Kouichien informed them that his sister, Sorceress, was on the Shadow Alliance.

A month later, the heroes went up against the Shadow Alliance again. This time, Omnizoar and MARS, two metahumans very much like Chimera and Edge, were among their Shadow Alliance enemies. At the end of the battle at the ruins, Edge had ‘ceased functioning’ and then disappeared when their backs were turned. The remaining heroes reported back to base to await new orders.

During their down time, Alexis was confronted by Yimara regarding her ‘miraculous recovery.’ Alexis reluctantly explained. She had made a deal with the demon who killed her parents in order to ensure her revenge. Now, the demon, named Zurubane, had to revive her every time she was killed until her 21st birthday. In exchange, she had to fight Zurubane the moment she turned 21. Bone had been listening in on the conversation, causing some harsh words from Alexis in response. Bone ended up explaining his own curse more, then told them of his new plan: a trip to see Allsight.

Allsight was a man who knew everything who lived in Asia. After a long plane ride, the group of heroes, now joined by Bone himself, parachuted down onto the pathway below. Sorceress was waiting for them, planning on stopping the group while they were down in numbers. However, the creatures guarding Allsight’s house quickly attacked her and dragged her off into the woods. Kouichien followed, trying to save his sister. The two of them were never heard from again.

When the rest of the group reached Allsight, he placed a challenge before them: to fight shadowy alternate versions of themselves for more strength and power. Upon defeating each one, the heroes absorbed their shadow selves and were greatly boosted in power because of it. Lycan showed up then, with one of the new replacements in tow: Shotgun, a supposed ‘super soldier’ created by the military who ran away to escape being used as a tool. With the group once again five members strong, they headed back to Megalopolis, using a portal created by Allsight, and went to confront the Shadow Alliance once again in the ruins. Durring the long and arduous battle, Chimera and Edge returned. ((I’ll spare you the details at the moment for the sake of not confusing you)) At the end of the battle, Malistyrax and the Shadow Alliance ran, minus MARS and Omnizoar, who had been destroyed by Edge and Chimera.

((If anyone has any questions about why this does not exactly match the original rpg events, it was for plot line refinement.))

After the battle at the ruins, Bone announced that everyone was going to get a week off for a vacation. However, the vacation was cut rather short when the Gem Syndicate attacked a building, crumbling it into ruins. Alexis, caught in the rubble while trying to help a group of civilians escape, was killed again, exempting her from trying to fight off the Gem Syndicate in a series of battles that followed. During this time, a new vigilante named Demon Paladin showed up to help out. As people went off to fight their chosen Gem Syndicate opponent, Alexis decided to go off for special training for a while. Bone Demon, one of Shade Lich's creations, makes an appearance or two, with the biggest one being when he, Shade Lich, and Malistyrax all start fighting against Onyx and Diamond, one of the Gem Syndicate members. Surprisingly, during this battle, the Shadow Alliance appeared to assist the heroes. In the end, only one Gem Syndicate member escaped: Amethyst. With no way to catch her, the heroes tried to regroup, only to have their next member literally drop in on them.

With Celestial, a metahuman whose abilities changed based on planetary movements, the heroes ended up facing off against the Shadow Alliance. The Shadow Alliance, however, gained a new member as well: Covenant. During the battle, Malistyrax revealed that his soul was once again complete. However, Shade steals the power of the last soul fragment and usurps Malistyrax, taking the shadow powers for his own. This made it, however, that Malistyrax could speak to Shade inside Shade's mind.

Allsight ends up saving the heroes and pulling them away from the fight. They all split up, deciding to take some time to become much stronger to be able to defeat Shade Lich in his new form. Shotgun, Yimara, and Celestial go after Amethyst to see if she can assist in any way. Shotgun ends up eventually heading off to the man who is helping Edge and Chimera and gets his weapons upgraded. Yimara ends up getting gem powers, but they don't work as expected completely. Amethyst is attacked by one of Shade Lich's new generals and Covenant, but ends up escaping in the end.

When the group of heroes reconvene, everyone shows off their new abilities in a battle against Shade Lich and his generals. However, Shade soon absorbs his generals and their abilities. At that point, Bone, Edge, Lycan, and Chimera end up betraying the heroes and Malistyrax returns. Quintin, another enemy, shows up, but the Shadow Alliance have the upper hand of the day. By the end, the Shadow Alliance walks away mostly unharmed, but not before a late-in-returning Alexis shows up on the sidelines and sees that her friends have betrayed the heroes in her absence. She leaves again, and everyone returns to their respective bases.

((To be continued...))
